The Ruby Reel (K-Music Recs) :: Record #2

Written By: Lauren

Hello, everyone! I’m here with my second music recommendation list. How did you like my first one? Did you end up liking any of the songs I listed? Hopefully the answer is “yes,” because I’ve got some more tracks this time for you all to check out!

Again, these aren’t in any particular order. Enjoy!

Track # 1: “Save Me” by BTS

Album: The Most Beautiful Moment in Life: Epilogue

Duration: 3:16

Commentary: The song is beautiful and draws you in right from the beginning with the smooth vocals. The vocals and music gradually builds up to a faster chorus and a strong instrumental piece. Following the chorus, Suga begins to rap and eases the song into its rap segments. The transitions in this song are smooth and every element of the song fits in well with each other. This emotional track is one of my favorite tracks from the album, and if you are a fan of “Run” or “I Need U,” you’ll definitely like this song.

Track # 2: “Young, Wild & Free” by B.A.P

Album: Matrix

Duration: 3:09

Commentary: If you’ve been a fan of B.A.P for a long time, you’ve probably already heard this song and feel the same way I do when I listen to it. “Young, Wild & Free” is symbolic and meaningful to both B.A.P and the fans, who have silently endured struggles together for many years. The members participated in this song, channeling all of their emotions and stories into a masterpiece packed with intensity and emotions. The impressive, passionate raps and vocals enrich the profound impact of the song, making it resonate within you. Check it out below!

Track # 3: “Pain” by SS301

Album: ETERNAL 5

Duration: 3:31

Commentary: “Pain” has a sound that is so authentically SS501 that you can’t help but love it upon first listen. As a seven-year fan of SS501, this song reminded me of previous tracks the members have released, giving it a genuinely “SS501 feel”. This subgroup existed a long time ago and this is their first comeback since then, so I thoroughly enjoyed every track in ETERNAL 5. It contains both ballad and dance elements, making it an emotional yet catchy song that you can’t help but sing along to. Youngsaeng, Hyungjun, and Kyujong’s vocals complement one another and provide a smooth flow to “Pain” that is reminiscent of older K-pop music.

Track # 4: “Okey Dokey” by MINO, ZICO

Album: Show Me the Money 4 – Episode 6

Duration: 4:08

Commentary: If you like rap and K-Hip Hop, this is the song for you. WINNER’s Mino and BLOCK B’s Zico are widely-regarded as some of the most talented rappers in the Korean music industry and this song is just a testament to that fact. Long-time friends, Mino and Zico’s dynamic chemistry carries into the overall impact of the song. Not only is the chorus catchy, but every part of the of the song. You won’t get bored listening to this. If you’re in need of a quick energy boost and self-confidence, play this song!

Track # 5: “Veni Vidi Vici” by ZICO

Duration: 3:13

Commentary: Since I’ve already mentioned Zico, I thought I might as well put “Veni Vidi Vici” on this list! “Veni Vidi Vici” is intense and invigorating from the start with its strong beat and Zico’s passionate, rhythmic rap. The song is fast and exciting from the start to the finish, leaving little time to catch your breath. If there’s any song that embodies everything about Zico, it’s this song. The entire GALLERY album is a compilation of excellent tracks that he created himself, so if “Veni Vidi Vici” is too fast for your taste, check out “Eureka,” “Boys and Girls,” or “Pride and Prejudice.”

Track # 6: “20” by SEVENTEEN

Album: 17 CARAT

Duration: 3:23

Commentary: Let’s tone things down with a slower, light-hearted track. “20” is one of my absolute favorite SEVENTEEN songs, being both soothing and catchy. Although every track on the album is great, this one stuck out to me the most (besides “Adore U”). It’s calming, romantic, and something I’d listen to at any given moment. This song is no rap and all vocals: sweet, gentle vocals that leave you feeling refreshed and ready for the challenges of the day. If you’re in need of a positive song to boost up your spirits, this is the song for you.
